Li Xing's dedication remembered

A memorial service for the late China Daily veteran journalist Li Xing was held at China Daily's Beijing offices on Tuesday morning.

Wang Guoqing, vice-minister of the State Council Information Office, Zhu Ling, editor-in-chief of China Daily, and Li's family members and friends, together with 200 other China Daily staff representatives, attended the service.

Wang praised Li's three decades of devotion to journalism, which made a key contribution to conveying China's voice to the international community and building up a good image of China.

"In the past 30 years, Li Xing always worked on the frontline, and produced a lot of stories with an international perspective, realizing her goal of explaining China to the world and also establishing her as an esteemed journalist both at home and abroad."

"The death of Li Xing is a great loss not only for China Daily but also for Chinese journalism and international communications," Wang said.

Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Chen, minister of the State Council Information Office expressed their condolences after learning of Li Xing's death, said Zhu Ling, editor-in-chief of China Daily. On behalf of the board of China Daily, Zhu also extended sincere condolences to Li Xing's family.

"Li Xing was an outstanding talent in the field of international communication and a passionate journalist, who fully devoted herself to work, until the last minute of her life. She was a tireless 'ambassador', who bridged China and the world," Zhu said.

Zhu called for all staff members at China Daily to learn from Li Xing's spirit of dedication, pursuit of truth, talent-fostering and fraternity, and to pass it on to future journalists.

"Personally speaking, I have lost a schoolmate, colleague and bosom friend," said Zhu.

"But the spirit left by Li Xing will permanently inspire us to more strenuously continue the rest of our lives and this will be her lasting legacy."

"Li Xing will live with us forever."
