1951: Tibet's peaceful liberation and democratic reform

The Agreement of the Central People's Government and the Local Government of Tibet on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet (i.e., the 17-Article Agreement) was signed on May 23, 1951; it proclaims the peaceful liberation of Tibet. Since ancient times China has been a multi-ethnic country, Tibet is Chinese territory, and Tibet has made important contributions for the formation and development of the Chinese nation.[Xinhua]
