  • Xi paid state visits to Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Iran and delivered a speech at the Arab League Headquarters.

    In the speech, Xi stressed the need to "advance industrialization in the Middle East", a statement backed up with pledges of billions of dollars in loans and investments to help make that happen.

  • Xi visited the Czech Republic and attended the fourth Nuclear Security Summit in the United States.

    Xi, invited by Czech President Milos Zeman, is the first Chinese president to make a state visit to the country since the establishment of diplomatic ties 67 years ago.

    During the Nuclear Security Summit, China and the United States pledged to step up their cooperation in nuclear security.

  • President Xi paid state visits to Ecuador, Peru and Chile, and attended the 24th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting held in Lima, Peru.

    Leaders of 21 Asia-Pacific economies ended their annual meeting with a joint pledge to resist protectionism amid signs of increased free-trade skepticism.

    Xi says FTAAP will promote economy of Asia-Pacific region to a new level.

  • Xi made an inspection tour in Chongqing at the beginning of 2016. It is his first visit to this southwest municipality since he took office as China’s top leader in 2012.

    It is seen as recognition for Chongqing’s economic and social achievements in recent years. Xi said the Belt and Road Initiative will provide a bigger platform for Chongqing to "go out" and the development of the Yangtze River Economic Zone can help the city better connect with the central and coastal areas of China.

  • President Xi Jinping targeted poverty alleviation efforts when he made a pre-Spring Festival visit to Jinggangshan in Jiangxi province.

    The city was home to the first rural base set up by China's revolutionary forces nearly 90 years ago.

    Alleviation efforts should be "spot on" and address the root causes, Xi said. He said that as China strives to achieve moderate prosperity, the old revolutionary base areas should move ahead simultaneously. "No one should drop out," he told a huge crowd of villagers.

  • During Xi’s field-study tour of Anhui province, he visited the village of Xiaogang, which was one of China's poorest four decades ago and took a lead in the country's economic reform and opening-up in the late 1970s.

    He also visited mountainous Jinzhai county, where many farmers are beginning to use solar power to change their lives under the government program to eliminate poverty.

  • President Xi Jinping used a field inspection trip to Heilongjiang province o spread the message about the central leadership's decision to revive China's northeastern industrial belt.

    He called for more action on economic reform and on environmentally friendly development in Heilongjiang and the northeast region.

  • Xi spent three days in Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, a less developed area with a high concentration of ethnic minorities. No region or ethnic group should be left behind in China's drive to build a moderately prosperous society by 2020, Xi said.

    Xi has urged developed regions in the east help their partner regions in the west better fight poverty at a national conference on poverty alleviation through east-west cooperation in Yinchuan, capital city of Ningxia.

  • China must further improve its overall disaster relief ability in view of the frequent natural disasters it experiences, which often cause great damage, President Xi Jinping urged during his visit to Tangshan on July 28. The day commemorates the 40th anniversary of Tangshan earthquake, which claimed more than 240,000 lives.

    After mourning victims and survivors of the earthquake, Xi said disaster relief is a matter of life and death as well as social stability.

  • President Xi Jinping has declared that protection of the ecosystem is "the most important foundation" of sustainable development during the tour to Qinghai.

    Describing the region's ecosystem as its "biggest merit, responsibility and potential," Xi said that measures must be taken to ensure that economic, social and environmental development proceed hand-in-hand.
