New policies to aid Belt and Road business ventures

Huang Bin, head of the Chinese Department at the Kasikorn Research Center in Bangkok

"The year 2015 witnessed more than 8 million Chinese travelers visiting Thailand, and China remains the largest source for the Thai tourism business. However, some of the local agencies still need to improve their services and safety awareness. At the same time, local governments sometimes lack management and regulation of the tourism business. Therefore, safety concerns exist among Chinese tourists. Several accidents happened to Chinese travelers in Thailand last year, particularly the bomb in August that left many Chinese dead or injured. Under such circumstances, the work of consular protection is even more crucial in Thailand."
