Guangdong High People's Court upheld a lower court's sentence of life in prison on Tuesday against a man who sent explosives via express delivery that injured another man.

Zheng Mingdong, the defendant, suspected the victim had an affair with his girlfriend.

In addition to life behind bars, Zheng was ordered to pay compensation of 800,000 yuan ($131,700), and the express delivery company was ordered pay the victim another 340,000 yuan.

Zheng, 37, decided to retaliate against the other man, surnamed Li, because Zheng thought Li had ruined the relationship with his girlfriend in February 2012. The woman dumped him and began to date Li.

On Feb 6, 2012, Li was seriously injured when the package he received exploded. He lost his sight as a result of wounds to both his eyes.

Zheng used a fake name when he sent the package. Two days after the explosion, following a police investigation, he was detained in Guangzhou's suburban city of Conghua.

At the original trial in May, Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court sentenced Zheng to life in prison and ordered him to pay compensation.
