A former official in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, stood trial for allegedly taking bribes worth 300,000 yuan ($49,260) on Monday, Yangtze Evening News reported on Tuesday.

Hou Shuguang, former director of environment bureau in Liuhe district of Nanjing, was accused of accepting bribes from 1996 to 2003 and prosecutors suggested that the court deliver a sentence of six to ten years in prison, the paper said.

But the district court did not give judgment during the trial, the paper said.

Hou confessed to taking bribes, but he did not think he had broken the law, the paper added.
