Almost 90 percent of Chinese users in an online survey complained the iPhone 5C, which Apple Inc launched on Sept 10 to target low-end users in countries such as China, is still too expensive and said they have no interest in the new gadget.

Apple launched its long-awaited new devices iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C on Tuesday in Cupertino. The iPhone 5C is believed to be a major move of the electronics giant to gain back its momentum in emerging markets such as China, Apple's second-largest market.

For the first time, China becomes one of the first markets to have the new iPhones. The starting price for iPhone 5S is 5,288 yuan ($858), while the starting price for the low-end iPhone 5C is 4,488 yuan ($728).

For many Chinese users who have been expecting an iPhone of less than 3,000 yuan ($487), the price is very disappointing.

In a survey on Sina.com.cn, the No 1 Web portal in China, 88.4 percent or 8,768 people said the price is too high and only 2.6 percent or 254 people said they would buy iPhone 5C.

The worst kept Apple Secrets since the iPad Mini, have just landed and they are incredible. During Apple's Wednesday press conference in Beijing there was a moment for a hands-on test.

This new phone from the front looks exactly the same as the current one. However once it's turned over, it becomes clear that this isn't the iPhone 5. Replacing the all metal back with a near uni-body plastic casing the new iPhone 5C almost looks like a Window's phone. [Full Story]

'Cheap' iPhone looks too pricey

Apple Inc's new plastic-backed iPhone 5C will sell for 4,488 yuan ($730) China, almost $200 more than the US retail price of $549 and only 800 yuan ($130) less than its top-of-the-line sibling, the 5S.

The pricing of what was expected to be a cheap model aimed at growth markets such as China and India has not only stumped investors, but also Apple aficionados in China, world's largest smartphone market. [Full story]
