Five years for a left-behind child

Doudou, a left-behind child, keeps away from one of her family members in Yuncheng, North China's Shanxi province on Jan 28, 2012. She separated from her parents after they went to Beijing to seek their fortune for this cash-starved family. The girl, now 6 months short of her 6th birthday, grew up with her grandparents since her parents left their hometown of Shanxi 3 months after she was born. She spent 6 months with her parents in Beijing till Jan 28, 2012 when she was once more sent back to Shanxi. Once separated from her parents again, she became quiet, timid and reluctant to speak to other people [Photo/CFP]
