In a great leap for public diplomacy, 12 Chinese diplomats will host a series of interviews to answer our readers' questions on regional and international affairs. The series, co-hosted by China Daily's website, the Foreign Ministry, People.com.cn, and Chinanews.com, runs from Jan 5. Topic: Taiwan question

Q: Which African countries have not established diplomatic relations with China? How many African countries have "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan? How does China handle the relations with countries having "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan?

A: Africa consists of 54 countries among which there are four countries that have not established diplomatic relations with China: Burkina Faso, Gambia, Sao Tome and Principe, and the Kingdom of Swaziland, all of which have established so called "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan. China is willing to establish normal bilateral relationships with the four countries as long as they recognize and adhere to the principle of one-China.
