BEIJING - A hospital in East China's Shandong province apologized to the public on Wednesday for discarding the bodies of several dead infants near a road crossing.

The Dezhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital announced that one of its workers named Zhang Jinhe mishandled the infants' bodies by disposing of them near a road crossing, according to a report on the website of the Jinan-based Dazhong Daily.

Local residents found some of the bodies scattered near a bridge in the Decheng district of Dezhou on Tuesday.

About ten bodies were found. The worker has been dismissed, according to the hospital.
