A total of 121 million Chinese internet users have been victims of account hacking, online password theft, and online fraud as of the end of June 2011, accounting for 24.9 percent of all Internet users in China, the Legal Daily reported on Tuesday.

The number of Internet users hit 485 million at the end of June, up 6.1 percent on the previous half-year period, according to a report released by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) recently.

Among the 485 million Internet users, 38.8 million had experienced online purchase fraud when shopping via the Internet, 8 percent of all Internet users, said the report.

Internet experts said that government authorities, Internet companies and the Internet users should take actions to protect cyber safety.
