SYDNEY - China is leading the world in addressing climate change by investing more than any other country in renewable technology, the head of Greenpeace International said on Wednesday.

In his speech at a gathering at the Lowy Institute in Sydney on Wednesday, Greenpeace International Executive Director Kumi Naidoo was promoting the need for a strong price on pollution in Australia, discouraging the argument that Australia shouldn't take action on climate change because of big polluters like China were not.

"Southwest China already has a massive plan to reduce drought," he told the gathering.

"There are other parts of China that are suffering massive flooding, from time to time, so they want to ensure that they address it," Naidoo said.

"In the first quarter of 2010, China has surpassed every other country in the world as the biggest investor in renewable technology."
