The national trial of EU-China International Debate Tournament, organized by All-China Youth Federation and undertaken by Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), kicked off in BFSU today.

With English as the official language of debate, this trial adopts the British Parliamentary Debate format and follows the same system with World Universities Debating Championship, the world's largest debating tournament.

During the trial, about 60 teams from universities across China will debate on hot topics such as current affairs, China-EU exchanges, climate change, and youth development. The top 16 winning teams will represent Chinese youth to participate in EU-China International Debate Tournament to be held in this September and have a verbal battle with their counterparts from Europe.

The tournament, an important component of EU-China Year of Youth activities, is the first debate tournament held in China that aims to enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the youth in China and Europe.

EU-China Year of Youth is the first theme year since the establishment of EU-China diplomatic relations 35 years ago. It is the first time for the EU together with the Chinese government to hold an exchange event for the youth, providing a platform for young people from China and the European Union to better understand each other’s culture.
