A college student jumped to her death from the seventh floor of a school Wednesday, less than one month before she was due to graduate, the Beijing Times reported Friday.

A student familiar with the case said the girl, surnamed Yang from Tianjin, was a third-year graduate student at the Beijing campus of the China University of Geosciences, and one likely reason behind the suicide is that she failed to answer essay questions.

The student said he had met the girl at a campus activity held by the Faculty of Earth Sciences and "she didn't appeared to be an introvert".

The incident was confirmed Thursday by Wu Jun, from the university's public relations department, who said they felt sorry for girl's death but denied rumors the tragedy was triggered by the pressure of graduation.

The girl's tearful parents, from Tianjin, made a visit to the university where their only child died.

The incident appeared in the top news of the university's campus forum with students expressing their sorrow.
