Police have arrested six men over a sulphuric acid attack on a government official in what appears to be revenge for a failed business deal.

The official, director of Weixian county's city planning bureau in North China's Hebei province, had acid thrown in his face on May 6 while leaving a restaurant.

China News Service reports one of the suspects, a construction project contractor surnamed Wu, blamed the official for his project being rejected for contradicting city planning rules.

Wu allegedly paid five others in late April to carry out the attack.

The six followed the official from May 3 to 5 and launched their attack around 9 pm on May 6 as he left a restaurant. The suspects immediately fled the scene in a car without a license plate.

The official suffered burns to the face and back. Further investigation into the case is still ongoing.
