China approves plan to improve river control

BEIJING- China authorized an overall plan to further harness its small and medium rivers and reinforce the country's small and medium-sized dilapidated reservoirs to prevent large flood-triggered geological disasters.

The decision was announced Wednesday in a cabinet statement released after an executive meeting of the State Council, or China's cabinet, which was presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao.
