According to a survey of 1,056 online respondents at dayoo.com, figures show 70 percent of employees in Guangzhou did not get annual bonuses, with only 10 percent getting "double-paid" as a yearly reward.

The figures refute another survey from a Guangzhou portal website, which showed the average bonus for employees reached 4,486 yuan ($680).

One netizen, named dayoo801314, said: "We have been passively averaged as the lucky 70 percent. How could the 4,866 yuan come? Most of my friends, as I know, didn't get a penny in annual bonus".

In China, "being passively represented" is a new internet buzz word on to show the conditions of ordinary people who have become involved in a situation without being informed or an active participant.

The dayoo.com survey also shows most respondents wish to have at least coupons, or paid-holidays as a supplementary solution if a company does not give employees annual bonus.

A salary manager from a Guangzhou-based international company said annual bonuses should not be linked to CPI or wage inflation, but simply offered as a reward for good performance.
