MASCAT -- Top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin wrapped up his official goodwill visit to the Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday and left for Kazakhstan, the last leg of his four-nation tour.

During his visit to Oman, Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), hailed the traditional friendship between the two countries and raised proposals to deepen cooperation.

The two sides should continue to strengthen political cooperation and expand exchanges between governments and provinces and cities, Jia said when meeting with Oman's Sultan Qaboos bin Said on Sunday.

China and Oman should increase bilateral trade, encourage two-way investment, and promote cooperation in the fields of construction, communication and electricity, Jia said.

Jia also held talks with Ahmed bin Mohammed al Isa'ee, president of Oman's State Consultative Council (SCC), Fahad bin Mahmoud al-Said, deputy prime minister for the Council of Ministers, and Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Manthri, chairman of Oman's State Council on Monday.

Omani officials said Oman appreciates China's support for the Arab people's just cause. Regarding China as a strategic cooperative partner, Oman wishes to promote economic and trade cooperation as well as people-to-people exchanges.

China is Oman's largest trade partner, and Oman has become China's fourth largest trade partner in the Arab world. Bilateral trade reached US$7.1 billion in the first eight months this year, a 60 percent year-on-year increase.

Jia arrived in Oman on Saturday. Oman was the third leg of Jia's four-nation tour, which had already taken him to Syria and Poland.
