According to the hotline's counselors, 90 percent of the questions or complaints are about marriage and family life, and 30 percent are about extramarital affairs. Most of the calls lasted 30 minutes.

They included a call from a woman in her 60s, weeping over her husband's affairs.

Divorce is not the only way to resolve marriage problems and can bring a series of hardships, especially for children, said Liu Xinyue, the chief counselor of the hotline. Relations between husbands and wives can be improved within marriage, she said.
