The recruitment process started in December last year at the local tertiary institutions. Those recruited also included Singaporeans based in Shanghai or with experience working in China. Volunteers were selected for their understanding of Singapore's culture and history.

The team of volunteers will undergo a specially tailored three-day training program to prepare them for their stint. It will guide volunteers on service etiquette, cultural norms in China as well as the latest developments in Singapore related to tourism and the Expo's theme of urban sustainability.

The World Expo 2010 will be held in Shanghai, China from May 1 to October 31 this year. By dedicating a 5.28-square-km area at the core of the city to exhibitions, events and forums, the expo will attract about 200 nations and regions and international organizations to take part in the exhibition as well as 70 million visitors from China and abroad.
