People will enjoy a 3-day holiday from April 3 to 5 for the Qingming Festival, or Tomb Sweeping Day, according to the General Office of the State Council yesterday.

As one of the 24 solar terms of the Chinese lunar calendar, Qingming, which falls on April 5 this year, has been celebrated by the Chinese for more than 2,500 years. People usually go to sweep tombs and mourn for the dead on this day. Drinks, food and "ghost money" — play money to be used in the afterlife — will also be brought to tombs as sacrificial offerings.
