More than 1,400 passengers stranded in a train which was paralyzed by heavy snow in North China have been rescued, chinanews.com reported.

Days of heavy wind and snowfall crippled the rail service, leaving a train from Harbin to Baotou stalled at the Dadonggou-Sanjiehaizi section from 18:48 Sunday, according to a CCTV report. The train had more than 1,400 passengers on board. They were rescued Monday.

Authorities with the Huhhot Railway Bureau mobilized nearly 10,000 staff to help combat the bad weather and provide food and drinking water to trapped passengers, said chinanews.com.cn.
