BEIJING: The first issue of China's Foreign Affairs, an annual photo album about achievements made in China's diplomacy, was launched in Beijing Thursday.

This issue reviewed the efforts of China's diplomacy in 2008.

The aim of publishing the annual album was to "bring diplomacy closer to the people, enhance domestic and international understanding of China's diplomatic efforts," said Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi at the unveiling ceremony.

The year 2008 was an eventful year in the course of China's development, said Yang, noting China yet "reaped a good harvest".

Collecting 401 representative photos with introductions in Chinese, English and French, the album was categorized into seven parts including high-level exchanges, Olympic diplomacy, foreign-related earthquake relief and multilateral diplomacy among others.

China also hoped the album could strengthen its friendship and cooperation with other countries, Yang added.

He said the album of China's Foreign Affairs 2009 was planned to be published in the second quarter of next year.

The album is due to be available in major bookshops and library, according to Zhang Xinsheng, director-general of the ministry's General Office.

Nearly 150 guests, including Nolana Ta Ama, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Togo's ambassador to China, attended the ceremony.
