Editor assaulted after muckraking; probe underway

SHIJIAZHUANG: A special police group has been formed in Shijiazhuang, capital city of north China's Hebei province, for investigation into the assault against a senior editor with a local newspaper, the city's public security bureau said.

At around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Le Qian, the executive deputy editor-in-chief with the Heibei Youth Daily, was suddenly assaulted by an unidentified man near the front door of her home.

The man had alledgedly beaten Yue in her head and face with a brick before he escaped after Yue's neighbors came out to see what was happening.

Zhao Weijiang, another deputy editor in chief with the local newspaper told Xinhua that the paper's headquarters had received calls since the beginning of this month, which threatened revenge would happen if the paper continued muckraking.
