BEIJING: One of China's major airline companies has announced it plans to employ Tibetan flight attendants to serve a growing number of Tibetan travellers.

China Eastern Airlines Co. Ltd. will target Tibetan applicants for the first time on November 28 and 29 in Xining, capital of northwest Qinghai Province.

The airline would hire 10 qualified applicants who passed an interview, physical examination and criminal records check. They will work on flights between Tibet Autonomous Region and the rest of the country.

The openings for Tibetans came amid an increasing need for flight attendants to serve a growing number of Tibetan travellers. According to a report on the company's website, more Tibetan people were flying between the plateau and the rest of the country.

China Eastern Airlines said it would employ more Tibetan flight attendants on condition that the demand for flights between Tibet and other regions increased.

"Tibetan flight attendants are expected to begin work next June or July after three months of training," Huang Zhengrong, director of human resource department of China Eastern Airlines, told Xinhua.

China Eastern Airlines operates three services connecting Lhasa, Xining and Golmud on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to other regions of the country such as Shanghai and Xi'an.

Headquartered in Shanghai, China Eastern Airlines is one of the three major airline companies in China and is listed in Shanghai, Hong Kong and New York.
