Chinese supercomputer ranks first in Asia

A Chinese supercomputer, the "Tianhe-1," was ranked first in Asia and fifth in the world among the world's top 500 supercomputers by the Supercomputer Conference in Portland, Oregon, xinhuanet.com reported Wednesday.

"Tianhe-1", developed by Chinese National University of Defense Technology, was the only non-American supercomputer among the top ten. It is able to do more than one quadrillion calculations per second theoretically at its peak speed.
