Beijing to invest 290b yuan to develop its south

The municipal government of Beijing will invest 290 billion yuan ($42.47 billion) in the south part of the city for construction of infrastructure and development of industries, the Beijing Times reported.

The south part of Beijing includes the Chongwen, Xuanwu, Fengtai, Fangshan and Daxing districts.

It makes up 20.5 percent of the city area, 27.2 percent of the city population but only accounts for 13.4 percent of the local Gross Domestic Product.
