HANGZHOU - At least 10 people were killed when a bus plunged 100 meters into a ravine in east China's Zhejiang Province Wednesday, local police said.

The bus carrying 28 people went off a mountain road in the countryside of Jiangshan City at about 2:30 p.m., police said.

More than 300 people, including police officers, soldiers, medical workers, government officials and local residents pitched in the search and rescue work.

By 6 p.m., rescuers had found all of the people, but 10 had died. The others have been rushed to hospital.

The passengers were returning from a local funeral home where one of their relatives was cremated, police said.

Local police are investigating the cause of the accident.
