The NAO conducted a survey in 2008 about the performance of water pollution control activities in Liaohe River, Haihe River, Huaihe River, Taihu Lake, Chaohu Lake and Dianchi Lake from 2001 to 2007 and found 403 million yuan was diverted for other usages and 112 million yuan was gained via false claims.

The water qualities of the rivers and lakes listed above are still very bad, according to the NAO, who attributed the reasons partly to the embezzlement.
