Known as the "Second Hometown of Buddhism", the city of Xi'an witnessed the glorious days of this religion in ancient times.

"It is of significant meaning that we can hold this symposium in the Dacien Temple, where Xuan Zang, a famous Chinese Buddhist monk, translated so many scriptures," said Xu Jialu, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, at the opening ceremony. "Buddhism has become an international religion, and only when we keep pace with the breakneck social development, can we contribute to a harmonious global environment."

An artistic performance was presented after the opening ceremony, where several famous actors made the scene.

The symposium will run until October 29.
