China's PLA brass meets Singaporean official

SINGAPORE: Chief of General Staff of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Chen Bingde called on Singapore Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong here Friday afternoon, according to source of the Chinese delegation on Saturday.

During their meeting, Goh said Singapore and China have cooperated well in economic and social areas as well as people-to- people communication, and that the bilateral defense and military collaborations have also made new progress.

He also said Singapore will continue to strengthen bilateral relations with China on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.  

Chen said the bilateral relations between the two countries have been fruitful. Both countries are facing challenges brought by the profound change in the world. The good relationship between the two countries is both strategic and necessary, he said.

Chen noted that China will stick to the road of peaceful development, and join hands with Singapore to make contributions to the peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

Chen is here on an official visit from October 22 to 24 at the invitation of Singapore Chief of Defense Force Lieutenant-General Desmond Kuek.
