Former Chongqing official arrested

Wen Qiang, former head of the Judicial Administration Bureau in Chongqing Municipality, has been arrested for suspicions of protecting local gangs and taking briberies , Xinhuanet reported last Sunday.

The local authorities also approved the arrest of Wen's accomplice Peng Changjian, deputy chief of the Chongqing's public security bureau.

Investigations showed Wen and his accomplices, mostly former officials of the city’s public security bureau, taking part in money laundering, rape, illegally holding firearms, offering loans at high interest rates, forging official and enterprise seals, introducing women to prostitution, and selling official positions during their terms.

Their illegal income of over 100 million yuan ($ 14.5 million) has been confiscated and the money Wen transferred overseas is still under investigation.
