China's holdings of US debt exceed $800b

China's holdings of US Treasury bonds hit $800.5 billion in July, according to statistics released by the US Department of Treasury on September 16, Xinhuanet.com reported.

The first time the US debt to China exceeded $800 billion was in May, when it hit a record high of $801.5 billion. In June, China reduced its holdings of the Treasuries by $25.1 billion.

But in July, China, the largest holder of US debt, added another $24.1 billion to its holdings of the US Treasuries.

Japan, the second largest holder of US debt, increased its holdings of the Treasuries by $12.7 billion in July to $724.5 billion. Britain also increased its holdings of US debt while Brazil and Russia slightly reduced their holdings.
