The Chinese metropolis Wuhan is planning to build the country's first green train station, cnhubei.com, a local news portal reported Friday.

The new station, located between two lakes in the city - the East Lake and the Yangchun Lake - will open on December 20 after three years of construction.

In the western square of the station, a one-kilometer long water belt will be used to connect the two lakes for travelers.

Over 140,000 square meters of landscaping covers the western square of the station and 60,000 of that can be used for passengers to sit on and enjoy in between rides.

There are plans to plant tall trees in the eastern square to provide shade for passengers.

A 7.2-hectare-shelter forest has been set up between the eastern square and the city's third ring road to filter noise and pollution from a nearby industrial park.
