And as a result of price cuts and car subsidy programs for rural areas, the number of vehicles in Beijing will likely keep growing fast in the second half of this year, adding pressure on Beijing's already overcrowded streets, sources from the traffic department said.

Starting on September 1, Beijing’s traffic department will release statistics about new vehicles and drivers once a week, according to the city traffic office.

Last week, 14,000 new vehicles were registered in Beijing, increasing the number of Beijing-registered cars by over 11,000. Approximately 3,000 cars are taken off the road due to accidents and overtime service, among other reasons.
