Macao's new chief to receive formal approval from Beijing

Chui Sai On, the winner of a recent election for chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will come to Beijing with his wife on Monday to receive formal approval from the State Council, chinanews.com.cn reported today.

Chui will then take office on December 20 as the second chief executive of the Macao SAR. The first chief executive was Ho Hao Wah. Each term lasts for five years.

The 52-year-old Chui ran for election unopposed and won 282 of the 296 votes cast by 297 election committee members present. His victory was certified by Macao's Court of Final Appeals on August 3.
