People working in Beijing will now have about 20 minutes' time to stretch their bodies before work every day, the Beijing News reported on Thursday.

The new daily exercise routine is part of the "Healthy Beijingers—A Ten-Year-Long Action Plan for All Residents' Health Improvement" launched Wednesday.

The exercise project actually started last year, according to Li Lili, vice director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports. But Li said it was not really feasible to ask people to do exercises during work based on the feedback they received, so the "Ten-Year-Long Action Plan" was made to strongly recommend exercising before work each day.

Li added if the plan does not work out in some companies, company staffers will be asked to do exercises during the weekend instead.

The Plan hopes to raise the average life span of Beijing residents from 80.27 years to 81 years, according to Xinhua News Agency.
