A high-ranking official in east China’s Zhejiang province was fired from his position as the representative to the 11th Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress, according to website of the China News Service Monday.

Wang Huayuan, the former secretary of the Zhejiang Commission for Discipline Inspection, was removed from his post for “serious malpractice and discipline offences,” the standing committee of the congress announced at a press conference Monday.

A former officer in China’s air force and later a senior official in the Guangdong provincial government, the 61-year-old Wang was detained and put under investigation this April.

Wang is also suspected of having close link with disgraced home appliance tycoon Huang Guangyu.
