China to dive deep for cures

China will intensify research efforts to find potential deep-sea cures for HIV/AIDS and cancerous tumors, the official Xinhua News Agency reported Tuesday.

China’s ocean bio-technology industry have witnessed rapid development of pharmaceutical products based on ocean resources, according to a report from the Bio-Technology Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

China will put great importance on deep-sea fishing over the next 10 years with the hopes of finding a breakthrough.

Currently, there are 800,000 people with the HIV virus in China. Malignant tumor and Cardio-cerebrovascular disease causes 60%-70% of the death in the country.
