Bank fails to intercept fake bankbook, gets fined
(China Daily)
Updated: 2009-06-24 09:02 A bank was ordered to pay 48,000 yuan to a depositor whose funds were withdrawn by someone using a fake bankbook in Foshan's Shunde district, Guangdong province, on Thursday. The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China was brought to court by the depositor who found his deposit was withdrawn while his bankbook and card remained intact at home in late 2007. After an investigation, the bank admitted the deposit was withdrawn by another person who used a fake bankbook. Shunde district people's court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, saying the bank had to bear the responsibility for depositors' economic losses because it failed to identify the fake bankbook.
