Rainfall in Beijing may persist into next week

BEIJING -- The Meteorological Bureau of Beijing said on Friday that the capital city is experiencing its longest period of rainfall this year. The rainy weather since Wednesday may not clear until the middle of next week.

The humidity in the city exceeded 95 percent on Friday morning, after an overnight downpour ended at 6:00 a.m., said the bureau. Visibility in some areas in the city was lower than 300 meters in the morning.

The city's average rainfall was 14 millimeters in the 24 hours up to  Friday morning. The heaviest rain was in the northeast part of Beijing, which had 68 millimeters.

The bureau forecast more rain on Friday.
