The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. in Suyu district, Suqian city. Eight staff from the Chulong House Demolition Company, accompanied by three property-management staff, went to an apartment to negotiate demolition issues, according to a press release issued by Suyu District.

The apartment, in a residential quarter "Jinxiu Jiangnan", was owned by a sister of Wang Chunyong, a suspect in the incident.

According to a plan by the demolition company, the whole area should be demolished, and it is in the process of clearing the area.

However, Wang's sister disagreed with the conditions offered by the demolition company and refused to move out of her house, the press release said. It did not elaborate what the conditions were.

The company staff knocked on the door but were refused entry. Three people suddenly rushed out of the apartment and used knifes to hack the demolition company staff, said the statement.

One staff member surnamed Yuan died at the site, and a further six staff were injured, one seriously. All the injured were sent to hospital.

The police seized two suspects, and one is still at large.
