The patient, a 46-year-old Chinese national, is receiving treatment in the Ditan Hospital in Beijing. He is in stable condition with a normal body temperature, the Beijing Health Bureau said.

He went to Toronto, Canada on March 24 in a visit to his relatives and returned to Beijing at 4 pm on May 21 on Flight AC031.

The man showed symptoms of coughing and ache in the throat Friday evening. He rode a taxi to the Chaoyang Hospital the next morning and was put under quarantine there.

Tests conducted by the Beijing Disease Control and Prevention Center on his saliva Saturday showed the patient was positive for A(H1N1). The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention is still reviewing the sample for a final conclusion.

Shanghai and Zhejiang Province in east China each reported a suspected case on Sunday.

The Chinese mainland now has eight confirmed A(H1N1) influenza cases.
