GANCHENG TOWNSHIP, Hainan Province -- Residents from two rivaling villages in south China's Hainan Province attacked a township government Monday night after the local government failed to address their dispute over a fight between students, witnessed said.

The offices of the Gancheng township, Dongfang city,  were smashed and damaged by villagers from Gancheng village and Baoshang village during the rioting that is still going on by early Tuesday morning.

According to witnesses, the incidence was caused by a fight between students from the two villages.

Unhappy with the way the township government dealt with the case, angry parents and relatives gathered at the township government Monday night and demanded an explanation.

Rioting broke out when their demands were not met, the witnesses said.
