1,000 workers block road to demand defaulted salary

ZHENGZHOU - Nearly 1,000 steel company workers blocked a downtown road in a central China city to demand payment of their defaulted salary and insurance premiums.

The workers of Linzhou Iron and Steel Co., Ltd, blocked a major road in Linzhou City, Henan Province Saturday afternoon as they were not satisfied with a restructuring plan formulated by the company.

They requested payment of their long defaulted salaries, medical and pension insurance premiums and compensation for laid-off workers.

After a dialogue with local officials, the workers dispersed at midday Sunday. Normal traffic has resumed.
