CHANGSHA -- Four pupils died and three were injured after a running cargo train struck them in central China's Hunan Province Thursday evening, railway authorities said Friday.

The accident occurred at 8:38 pm Thursday when a cargo train hit the seven pupils who were leaving their evening class at the Zhijiang section in Hunan, the Guangdong Railway Group said.

A seriously injured pupil is out of critical condition and the other two are in stable condition, hospital sources said.

Railway authorities said the section has no fences and the speed limit is less than 120 km per hour.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
