KUNMING - A 41-year-old woman died of injuries sustained in a brawl at the airport in Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan Province, police said Tuesday.

Wang Wenyan died at 11:22 a.m. Tuesday in hospital, about 13 hours after a 27-year-old man named Liu Yong attacked her and three of her friends with a knife, a spokesman of the provincial public security department said.

A man, one of Wang's friends, was in critical condition Tuesday. Another man and a woman suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

The brawl broke out in front a ticket counter. Liu, who wanted to buy air tickets, demanded attention at the counter while Wang was quarreling with the airline employee over a flight change.

Both sides quarreled, pushed and fought. Liu allegedly pulled out the knife after he was hit to ground.

Both Liu and Wang had drunk alcohol for dinner, the police spokesman said.

Police detained Liu at the scene and he had allegedly confessed to the knife attack.
