GUIYANG -- At least 13 people were trapped after a colliery was flooded early Wednesday morning, according to sources with the work safety administration of southwest China's Guizhou Province.

An initial probe showed the flood occurred at about 5:40 a.m. in Yanglin colliery, Anshun city, when at least 13 people were in the pit. It is not clear yet if all the trapped are miners.

Vice governor Sun Guoqiang and the provincial work safety head Pu Jianjiang rushed to the site to direct the rescue.

Further investigation is underway.
