BEIJING - The prosecution of a law professor killer was pending on charge of intentional homicide in January, according to a source with the Beijing procuratorate.

The source said that the killer, Fu Chengli, told police that the law professor was undeserved to be a teacher. That was why he had to execute the killing as a warning to others.

The No. One People's Procuratorate of Beijing also confirmed that Fu's parents had applied for a psychiatric assessment for their son.

Zhang Bo, one of the two lawyers hired by Fu's parents to defend their son, said, the psychiatric request has not been accepted.

"Fu, as a law school student to commit the murder of a teacher in the classroom, has been deemed dangerous to the society. His parents are prepared for his possible legal consequences," said the lawyer, who used to be a law teacher in the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL).

Fu told police that CUPL Professor Cheng Chunming had an affair with his girlfriend, which made him undeserved to be a teacher.

However, neither the school nor the police source have verified the allegation.

Fu was a forth-year student from the university's Political Science and Public Management School. On October 28, Fu burst into the classroom, where Professor Cheng was about to begin his class, attacked Cheng, and afterward used his own mobile phone to surrender himself.
