A 17-year-old man was arrested Saturday and charged with killing his pregnant girlfriend who was 12 years older than him.

Minhang District prosecutors charged the teenager, surnamed Bian, with murder. Bian said he had killed the woman because he could not take her temper tantrums.

Bian met the victim, surnamed Shui, in March when he worked in a restaurant. Shui showered him with care and attention like a mother and Bian quickly fell in love with her.

The two began a sexual relationship three months later then Shui began to change, Bian told prosecutors.

"At first she was mild and gentle. But after we had sex, she changed completely," Bian allegedly said.

"She became hot-tempered and was always asking me to take her out at night after off work. If I didn't she would argue with me." Bian said Shui shouted at him and hit him in front of his friends and her family. He felt humiliated.

On October 20, Shui met Bian, telling him off for not coming to visit her the night before. She then told Bian she had quarrelled with her parents and asked him to take her to his father's home to stay for a while.

The following night Bian took Shui to a remote part of Mulin Road to talk to her. Shui had thought Bian was taking her to his father's home and became upset and angry.

"I couldn't bear it any more. I had just one idea in my mind -- I had to let her die," Bian said.

Unable to control himself any further, the young man pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman frenetically.

"I wanted to get rid of her completely. I didn't want to see her any longer, so I let her die," he said.

A police doctor found Shui had been pregnant.
